Messenger now encrypts conversations end-to-end. That's good for privacy, but it changed how old chats are stored. When a conversation that started years ago got migrated to encryption, Messenger didn't merge everything into one timeline. It kept the pre-encryption messages in a legacy thread and everything since in a separate encrypted thread. You still see one chat in the app, but under the hood there are two histories.
This is where hand-deleting falls apart. Scroll up and long-press to remove messages, and you only ever touch the thread that's currently on screen. The other one sits untouched, out of reach. You can spend an hour cleaning what looks like the whole conversation and still leave hundreds or thousands of your own messages alive in the thread you never saw.

Detect the migration
When you scan a conversation, Unsay checks whether it was migrated to end-to-end encryption. If it was, it locates both the legacy thread and the encrypted thread that belong to the same person, not just the one on screen.

Count your messages in each
Unsay walks each thread and counts only your own messages. It never reads or stores the content, it just needs to know which items are yours and when you sent them. Other people's messages are ignored.

Merge into one real total
The two counts are stitched into a single number, for example "89 in the encrypted thread, 4,593 in the legacy one, 4,682 total". That merged figure is the honest size of what you're about to remove, something no amount of scrolling would ever show you.

Remove for everyone, across both
Pick a range (everything, or a date window) and hit Unsend. Unsay removes each message for everyone using Messenger's own action, across both threads, with a randomized 5 to 7 second pause between each to stay under Messenger's radar.

Pause, resume, stop
The side panel shows live progress, for example "28 / 47 removed". Pause and the loop stops cleanly; resume and it picks up the next pending message; stop and the job ends, with everything already removed staying removed (Messenger has no undo).

Your encryption
Does deleting break the end-to-end encryption? No.
The encryption is never broken. Unsay does not decrypt anything, and it never reads the content of your messages. It only calls Messenger's own remove for everyone action on messages you already sent, the same action you'd use by hand. Your end-to-end encryption keys stay on your device, where they belong.
There's an important distinction here. Reading an encrypted message and removing an encrypted message are two completely different things, and Unsay only ever does the second one. To delete, it doesn't need to know what a message says, only that you sent it and when. So the whole operation happens inside the security model Messenger already gives you: nothing is exported, nothing is decrypted, nothing is transmitted to us.
This matters because it's why the feature can exist at all. If Unsay tried to read your encrypted history, it would be breaking the exact privacy you're trying to protect. Instead, it treats your messages as sealed envelopes with your name on them, and simply asks Messenger to take them back. Both threads, for everyone, without ever opening one.

Your conversation started long before end-to-end encryption and got moved over at some point. Remove for everyone is permanent, and Messenger has no undo. Unsay for Messenger does not keep a copy of your chats, so if you want to keep anything, export it from Messenger yourself before you start. Once it's removed, it's gone from both threads.

Doesn't delete calls
Messenger doesn't let anyone remove voice or video call log rows from a conversation. Unsay counts them separately and leaves them alone, on both the encrypted and the legacy thread. Only text, media, and other removable bubbles are handled.
