How it works

How to bulk unsend your Facebook Messenger messages

Messenger makes you unsend messages one by one, and it won't touch the encrypted history. Unsay does the whole conversation for you, right inside your browser. Here's the six-step recipe.

  1. 01

    Install Unsay

Add the free Unsay extension from the Chrome Web Store. Works in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera.

  2. 02

    Open a Messenger chat

On messenger.com or facebook.com/messages, open the conversation you want to clean. Stay in a regular Chrome window, Incognito isn't supported.

  3. 03

    Open the Unsay side panel

Click the Unsay icon in your Chrome toolbar. A side panel opens on the right, persistent across tabs.

  4. 04

    Scan the conversation

Click Scan. Unsay counts every message you've sent, across both the encrypted and the legacy thread. Other people's messages are ignored.

  5. 05

    Pick what to delete

Choose: everything, last 30 days, 6 months, a year, or a custom date range. Calls and other non-removable items are counted separately and left alone.

  6. 06

    Unsend for everyone

Click Unsend. Messages are removed for everyone, one by one, with a 5 to 7 second pause to stay under Messenger's radar. Pause or stop anytime.

Before / After

Like it never happened.

Their replies stay. Your words don't. Unsay only ever touches messages you sent, never anyone else's, and removes them for everyone.

End-to-end encrypted

Even your encrypted chats.

Messenger now encrypts conversations end-to-end, and older chats that migrated are quietly split into two threads: the legacy one and the encrypted one. Scroll back by hand and you'll only ever reach half of your history. Unsay finds both, merges the count, and unsends across the whole thing, for everyone.

One conversation, two hidden histories.

You see a single chat. Under the hood, Messenger keeps the pre-encryption messages in one thread and everything since in another. Unsay stitches them together so the count is real and nothing is left behind.

The encryption stays intact. Unsay never reads your messages, it only asks Messenger to remove the ones you sent.

Stealth Mode Pass

Don't get caught.

If you bulk-delete starting from your most recent messages, your latest replies suddenly vanish from the other person's view. Their own messages stay, yours are gone, like you ghosted them mid-conversation. Stealth Mode reverses the order: it starts from the oldest, so the recent visible part of the chat stays intact. They notice nothing unless they scroll way back.

Cleaned silently, from the oldest.

The visible part of the conversation, what shows up the second they open the chat, stays untouched. The cleanup happens far back in the scrollback, where they're unlikely to look.

Free works the same way technically. Stealth just changes the order so they're even less likely to notice.

FAQ

Questions, answered honestly.

Can I bulk-delete all my Facebook Messenger messages at once?

Messenger doesn't let you do this natively, it only unsends one message at a time. Unsay is a free Chrome extension that bulk-unsends every message you've sent in a conversation, using Messenger's own mechanism with a respectful 5 to 7 second delay between each.

Does it work on end-to-end encrypted Messenger chats?

Yes. Messenger now defaults to end-to-end encryption, and older conversations that migrated are split into two threads: the legacy one and the encrypted one. Unsay finds both, merges the count, and unsends across the whole history, something you can't do by scrolling by hand. The encryption itself is never broken, Unsay only asks Messenger to remove the messages you sent.

Does "unsend" remove the message for the other person too?

Yes. Unsay uses Messenger's remove for everyone action, the same one you get when you long-press a message and choose Remove for everyone. The message is gone from your side and theirs, permanently.

Is Unsay safe? Will my Facebook account be flagged?

Unsay waits 5 to 7 seconds between each unsend, well under Messenger's automated thresholds. The code is unminified and audited by Google before publication on the Chrome Web Store.

Where do my messages go? Is anything sent to a server?

Your messages stay between your browser and Facebook's own servers, using your existing logged-in session. We never see, store, or transmit their content. A minimal backend handles the weekly free quota and Pass license verification, receiving only anonymous one-way identifiers (no name, no IP, no message content). Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy on their own infrastructure.

What about group chats?

Unsay works the same way in groups. Only your own messages are removed. The other participants' messages are never touched.

How much does an Unsay Pass cost?

Two one-time Passes: $30 for 7 days, $60 for 30 days (launch prices, regular $60 and $120). Each one unlocks unlimited unsends and Stealth Mode, then expires on its own. No subscription, nothing to cancel. One Pass covers one machine. The clock starts when you activate the key, not when you buy.

Does the free version really cost nothing?

Yes. You can unsend 50 of your own messages every week, forever, on both encrypted and legacy threads. A Pass only lifts the weekly limit and adds Stealth Mode.
