Unsay features.

Two things make Unsay different from a manual Instagram unsend. Stealth Mode changes the deletion order so the recipient doesn't notice. Local Backup saves the whole conversation as a ZIP before you erase it. Both ship inside the free Chrome extension, with a Pass unlocking the full power.

Overview

What does Unsay actually do beyond bulk delete?

Instagram limits native unsend to 1 message at a time. Unsay batches the whole thread at 5 to 7 seconds per message, using Instagram's official unsend endpoint. On top of the core bulk-delete loop, two features change how the cleanup looks and feels: one for stealth, one for memory.

01

The base loop, free for everyone

Scan a DM thread, count your own messages, pick a date range, click Unsend. Up to 100 messages per week on the free tier. The extension calls Instagram's same unsend endpoint your phone uses, so the message disappears from both sides, permanently.

02

Stealth Mode, with a Pass

Reverses the deletion order. Instead of starting from the most recent message (the one that's visible right now), it starts from the oldest. The recent visible part of the chat stays intact, the cleanup happens far back in the scrollback where they're unlikely to look.

03

Local Backup, free and with a Pass

Before deletion, Unsay can save the whole conversation as a single .zip: a readable HTML viewer plus every photo, video, and voice note. Free saves your own messages. A Pass saves both sides.

The two features

Each page covers what the feature does, the exact mechanism, why it matters, and the limits. Real numbers, no marketing fluff.

Stealth Mode

Don't get caught.

  • Deletes from the oldest message first, not the most recent
  • Recent visible part of the chat stays untouched
  • Randomized 5 to 7 second delay between each unsend
  • Pass feature, unlocked with any Pass

Local Backup

Erase the past. Keep the proof.

  • Single .zip in your Downloads folder
  • Readable HTML viewer, opens in any browser
  • Every photo, video, voice note bundled in
  • Free: your messages. With a Pass: both sides.

Free vs Pass

What's free, what needs a Pass?

Both features are present in the free extension. Stealth Mode is gated behind a Pass. Local Backup is partially free (your own messages) and fully unlocked with a Pass (both sides of the conversation).

Why these two and not ten

Why does Unsay ship only these two features?

Most Instagram cleanup tools pile up gadgets: scheduled deletes, fake typing indicators, follower exports, story downloaders. Unsay is the opposite. It does one thing, bulk unsend, and adds the two features that make the cleanup actually safe and reversible-feeling.

A

Stealth Mode answers a real fear

"If I bulk-delete, will they notice?" Most users hesitate because Instagram puts the most recent messages on top, which is exactly the part the recipient sees when they open the chat. Delete those first and the holes are obvious. Stealth flips the order. You delete the ancient stuff first, the visible part stays intact, and the cleanup blends into years of scrollback nobody re-reads.

B

Local Backup answers a real regret

"What if I want this back?" Unsend is permanent. Instagram does not let you recover an unsent message. The backup is the only insurance policy: a ZIP on your machine, with the whole conversation rendered as readable HTML, plus the media files themselves (not URLs that expire when Meta rotates its CDNs). Open it in 2030, it still works.

Two features. Both honest. No fake countdowns, no manufactured scarcity.

FAQ

Quick questions about the features.

Do I need a Pass to use Stealth Mode?

Yes. Stealth Mode is a Pass-only feature. The free tier deletes from the most recent message backwards (the default Instagram order). Stealth flips that order so the cleanup starts from the oldest, leaving the visible recent part of the chat intact. Full Stealth Mode page.

Is Local Backup completely free?

The backup feature itself is free. The free tier saves your own messages only, in a single ZIP with a readable HTML viewer and your media files. A Pass saves the full conversation, both sides, with every photo, video, and voice note from both you and the other person. Full Local Backup page.

Where does the backup file go?

Your browser's Downloads folder. A single .zip file named after the conversation and a timestamp, for example Unsay - alex_blackwood_2026-05-30.zip. Nothing is uploaded to a server. The ZIP is built locally inside the extension and delivered through the browser's native download mechanism.

Can I combine Stealth Mode and Local Backup?

Yes. The recommended flow with a Pass is: scan the thread, click Back up this conversation first to save the ZIP, then toggle Stealth Mode on and click Unsend. You get a permanent local archive and a discreet cleanup at the same time.

Why is there a 5 to 7 second delay between each unsend?

To stay discreet and avoid getting detected by Instagram. The delay is randomized between 5 and 7 seconds, which matches roughly the rhythm of a human unsending messages by hand. It's not configurable on purpose: faster would risk your account, slower would just waste your time. A 1,000-message thread takes around 1 hour 40 minutes.

Does Unsay support group chats?

Yes. Both bulk unsend and Local Backup work the same way in group DMs. Only your own messages are touched, the other participants' messages are never deleted or modified. Stealth Mode also applies to groups.

Are more features coming?

Maybe, but not for the sake of feature count. The next candidates on the roadmap are quality-of-life improvements (better date filters, conversation list view, search) rather than new product surfaces. Unsay is built to do one thing well, not to become a Swiss Army knife.
