How it works
How to delete all your Instagram messages at once
Instagram doesn't let you bulk-delete messages. Its app forces you to unsend them one by one. Unsay does the whole conversation for you, right inside your browser. Here's the six-step recipe.
-
01
Install Unsay
Add the free Unsay extension from the Chrome Web Store. Works in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera.
-
02
Open an Instagram DM
On instagram.com, open the conversation you want to clean. Stay in a regular Chrome window, Incognito isn't supported.
-
03
Open the Unsay side panel
Click the Unsay icon in your Chrome toolbar. A side panel opens on the right, persistent across tabs.
-
04
Scan the conversation
Click Scan. Unsay counts every message you've ever sent in that thread. Other people's messages are ignored.
-
05
Pick what to delete
Choose: everything, last 30 days, 6 months, a year, or a custom date range. Want to keep a copy first? Click Back up this conversation.
-
06
Unsend
Click Unsend. Messages delete one by one with a 5 to 7 second pause to stay under Instagram's radar. Pause or stop anytime.
Before / After
Like it never happened.
Their replies stay. Your words don't. Unsay only ever touches messages you sent, never anyone else's.
Optional backup
Erase the past. Keep the proof.
Every photo, voice note, and message saved on your machine. A single ZIP. Opens in any browser, forever. No one else gets a copy.
-
A self-contained HTML viewer. Double-click to open. Voice-note waveforms, lightbox photos, shared reels, all preserved.
-
Your photos, videos, voice notes, every media bundled inside the ZIP. Not links that expire. Real files you own.
-
Saved locally. Never uploaded. The ZIP lands in your Downloads folder, on your machine. We don't keep a copy. We can't.
-
Optional. Skip the backup and delete directly. Your call. Free saves your messages only; a Pass saves the whole conversation, both sides.
Stealth Mode Pass
Don't get caught.
If you bulk-delete starting from your most recent messages, your latest replies suddenly vanish from the recipient's view. Their own messages stay, yours are gone, like you ghosted them mid-conversation. Stealth Mode reverses the order: it starts from the oldest, so the recent visible part of the chat stays intact. They notice nothing unless they scroll way back.
Cleaned silently, from the oldest.
The visible part of the conversation, what shows up the second they open the chat, stays untouched. The cleanup happens far back in the scrollback, where they're unlikely to look.
Free works the same way technically. Stealth just changes the order so they're even less likely to notice.

FAQ
Questions, answered honestly.
Can I bulk-delete all my Instagram messages at once?
Instagram doesn't let you do this natively, its app only allows unsending one message at a time. Unsay is a free Chrome extension that bulk-unsends every message you've sent in a DM thread, using Instagram's official API with a respectful 5 to 7 second delay between each.
Does the other person see when I unsend messages?
On the recipient's side, your messages just disappear completely. No placeholder, no notification, no trace. Their own past messages are still there but your replies are gone, like you were never in the conversation. They look as if they'd been talking to themselves. Stealth Mode (unlocked with a Pass) deletes from the oldest first, so the recent part of the conversation, the part they might actually scroll back to, stays untouched.
Will my messages be deleted from both sides permanently?
Yes. Unsay uses Instagram's official unsend endpoint, the same one the Instagram app uses when you long-press a message and tap Unsend. The message is removed from your side and the recipient's side, permanently.
Is Unsay safe? Will my Instagram account be banned?
Unsay waits 5 to 7 seconds between each unsend, well under Instagram's detection threshold. The extension has been stress-tested on 16,000+ message threads without an account issue. The code is also audited by Google before publication on the Chrome Web Store.
Where do my messages go? Is anything sent to a server?
Your messages stay between your browser and Instagram's own servers, using your existing logged-in session. We never see, store, or transmit their content. A minimal backend handles license verification and the weekly free quota, receiving only anonymous one-way identifiers (no name, no IP, no message content). Payments are processed by Gumroad on their own infrastructure.
How long does it take to clean a big conversation?
Roughly 6 seconds per message. A 1,000-message thread takes about 1 hour 40 minutes. You can pause, close Chrome, and resume later, Unsay remembers the job state.
What about group chats?
Unsay works the same way in groups. Only your own messages are deleted. The other participants' messages are never touched.
Can I back up the conversation before deleting?
Yes. Before deletion, Unsay can save the whole conversation to your Downloads folder as a single .zip: a readable HTML viewer plus every photo, video, and voice note. Free saves your own messages; a Pass saves the full conversation, both sides.
How much does an Unsay Pass cost?
Two one-time Passes: $15 for 7 days, $30 for 30 days (launch prices, regular $30 and $60). Each one unlocks everything, unlimited unsends, full conversation backup, and Stealth Mode, then expires on its own. No subscription, nothing to cancel. One Pass covers one machine. The clock starts when you activate the key, not when you buy.
What if Instagram changes their API?
We patch the extension within hours and push the update through Chrome's auto-update system. You don't have to do anything.
